Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge
Das Bundesamt hat die Aufgabe wissenschaftliche Forschung zu Migrations- und Integrationsthemen zu betreiben. In Anlehnung an die Kernaufgaben des Bundesamtes betrachtet das Forschungszentrum das Migrationsgeschehen nach und von Deutschland und analysiert die Auswirkungen von Migrationsprozessen. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden für die Migrationssteuerung und Politikberatung verwendet.
BIM
Berliner Institut für empirische Migrations- und Integrationsfoschung
Das BIM konzentriert sich auf theoriegeleitete empirische Forschung, die sie immer wieder an die Grundlagenforschung zurückbindet. Zugleich wird ein systematischer Forschungstransfer in den öffentlichen Raum angestrebt, der von der kritischen Begleitung politischer Debatten über öffentlichkeitsorientierte Veranstaltungen bis hin zu medialen Interventionen reicht. Insofern versteht sich das BIM als aktiver Beobachter gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen.
DIE
Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik
Das Deutsche Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) mit Sitz in der UN-Stadt Bonn zählt weltweit zu den führenden Think Tanks zu Fragen globaler Entwicklung und internationaler Kooperation. Das interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Institut vereint Forschung, Beratung und Ausbildung. Das DIE bildet eine Schnittstelle zwischen Theorie und Praxis.
GMC
Global Migration Centre

The Global Migration Centre (GMC) based at the Graduate Institute of international and Development Studies offers a unique interface between academia and the international community. The GMC conducts advanced research, policy-relevant expertise and training on the multifaceted causes and consequences of global migration.
The major distinctive features and assets of the GMC are its focus on the transnational dimensions of migration and its interdisciplinary orientation. By doing so the GMC seeks to fully grasp the complexities of mobility in a globalized world. To this end, it combines inputs from lawyers, political scientists, economists, historians, anthropologists and sociologists.
While its primary function is to lead policy and academic research, the GMC also aims at influencing the direction of future practices and norms through dissemination and training. It regularly organises summer courses, international conferences, lectures and panel discussions.
HSFK
Hessische Stiftung Friedens- und Konfliktforschung
Das Leibniz-Institut Hessische Stiftung Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (HSFK) wurde 1970 von der Hessischen Landesregierung als selbstständige Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts ins Leben gerufen. Ihre Verfassung garantiert der HSFK völlige wissenschaftliche Freiheit. Die HSFK bestimmt ihre Forschungsthemen selbst. Mit über 80 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern ist sie das größte Friedensforschungsinstitut in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Seit 1. Januar 2009 ist die HSFK Mitglied der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft.
Die Arbeit der HSFK ist darauf gerichtet, die Ursachen gewaltsamer internationaler und innerer Konflikte zu erkennen, die Bedingungen des Friedens, verstanden als Prozess abnehmender Gewalt und zunehmender Gerechtigkeit, zu erforschen sowie den Friedensgedanken zu verbreiten. Im Rahmen ihrer Politikberatung werden Forschungsergebnisse praxisorientiert in Handlungsoptionen umgesetzt, die Eingang in die öffentliche Debatte finden.
IMISCOE
International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe
IMISCOE stands for ‘International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion in Europe’, and is the largest network of scholars working on migration topics in Europe. Over 300 people presented their research at this year’s conference, which was held at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, located very centrally in Madrid, just 20 minutes’ walk from the city centre.
IMISCOE publishes various book series and the journal Comparative Migration Studies (CMS). IMISCOE has established the reputable IMISCOE Research Series with over 50 books over the past decade. With the IMISCOE Textbooks series, the network also provides a platform to publish educational books for use in the training of graduate-level students pursuing migration, integration and ethnic studies.
IMISCOE promotes the widest possible access to the research and publications of IMISCOE members, to promote the dissemination of work and the opportunities for learning from each others’ research. Comparative Migration Studies is an Open Access journal, and most of the books in the IMISCOE Book Series are available in our own digital library and in OAPEN.

The Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) was founded in 1982 as part of the Oxford Department of International Development (Queen Elizabeth House) at the University of Oxford
Research – The RSC provides multidisciplinary, independent and critical scholarship on factors determining and resulting from the forced displacement of populations. The Centre drives scholarship and social scientific debates on forced migration both through its own work and by encouraging collaboration between academics from a wide range of institutions and university departments.
Teaching – The RSC’s teaching programme is designed to support and develop the next generation of scholars and thinkers, as well as to foster a culture of critical reflection within the wider humanitarian community.

Conversion studies for a more peaceful world
As an independent, non-profit organization, BICC (Internationales Konversionszentrum Bonn—Bonn International Center for Conversion) deals with a wide range of global topics in the field of peace and conflict research centering on Conversion Studies. Our vision is a more peaceful world. Our mission is to conduct critical, problem-oriented, policy relevant research in response to the problems posed by organized violence.
To do so, we engage in active exchanges with scholars and politicians as well as stakeholders in everyday practice and civil society. As a think tank, BICC seeks to engage in a dialogue with NGOs, governments, private organizations, research institutes and universities and well as with interested individuals.
BIM
Bonner Institut für Migrationsforschung
Das Bonner Institut für Migrationsforschung (BIM) in der ehemaligen Bundeshauptstadt Bonn, in der 180 Nationalitäten vertreten sind, erarbeitet wissenschaftliche Grundlagen und empirische Daten zur Versachlichung der Diskussion über Integrationsfragen in NRW und ganzem Deutschland und leistet mit seiner Forschung einen Erkenntnistransfer in Politik, Zivilgesellschaft und Medien. Dabei hält das BIM eine enge Verzahnung von Wissenschaft und Praxis für erforderlich, wodurch das interkulturelle Zusammenleben gefördert werden soll.

The mission of COMPAS is to conduct high quality research in order to develop theory and knowledge, inform policy-making and public debate, and engage users of research within the field of migration.
In line with this overall mission statement our aims are:
- Academic advancement: contributing significant new empirical data; reflecting and advancing theory, methods and multi-disciplinary understanding in the field of migration studies; and building capacity among researchers and practitioners.
- Informing policy-making and public debate: providing evidence and analysis to policy-makers and to the wider public that will inform policy-making and public debate.
- Engaging with research users: establishing reciprocal relationships with individuals and organisations with experience of migration, including migrants and their organisations, government, business, international organisations, and third sector and civil society organisations.
- Achieving long-term sustainability: establishing a reputation for high quality delivery of service, operating efficiently as a centre and ensuring a diversified funding base that will allow a long term future for the centre.
To achieve these aims the Centre will build on the management systems and procedures established since 2003 in order to maximise the added value of working as a centre. The cross-fertilisation of ideas will also be extended across the University, as well as with other migration-related institutions in the UK, Europe and beyond.
FFM
Forschungsgesellschaft Flucht und Migration e.V.
Die Forschungsgesellschaft Flucht und Migration (FFM) besteht seit 1994. Sie recherchiert und veröffentlicht zur Situation von Flüchtlingen und MigrantInnen an der Peripherie der Europäischen Union (EU) sowie zur Abschottungs- und Lagerpolitik an den EU-Außengrenzen. Bezugspunkt für die FFM sind
die Interessen und Rechte von Flüchtlingen und MigrantInnen und damit einhergehend die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit staatlicher Migrations- und Flüchtlingspolitik. Dabei werden Gründe für Flucht und Migration grundsätzlich respektiert. Die Selbstorganisation von Flüchtlingen und MigrantInnen, auch über Staatsgrenzen hinweg, sollen mit dieser Arbeit unterstützt werden. Die Forschung erfolgt nach Möglichkeit in Kooperation mit flüchtlingspolitischen Verbänden, mit engagierten Gruppen vor Ort und mit
akademischen Einrichtungen. Die Rechercheergebnisse veröffentlicht die FFM in der Regel in gemeinsamen Publikationen wie auch in einer eigenen Heftreihe.
INEF
Institut für Entwicklung und Frieden
Das Institut für Entwicklung und Frieden (INEF) ist eines von vier Instituten der Fakultät für
Gesellschaftswissenschaften an der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Eingerichtet wurde das INEF im Jahr 1990 unter anderem zur wissenschaftlichen Begleitung der Arbeit der Stiftung Entwicklung und Frieden (sef:), welche bereits 1986 auf Initiative Willy Brandts gegründet wurde und noch heute einer unserer engsten Kooperationspartner ist.
Es ist Alleinstellungsmerkmal des INEF, die Felder Entwicklung und Frieden gemeinsam zu bearbeiten und insbesondere Fragen an deren Schnittstelle zu untersuchen. Das INEF verbindet dabei allgemeine Grundlagenforschung mit anwendungsorientierter Forschung und Politikberatung zu spezifischen Themenbereichen. Seit 2015 konzentriert sich das neue Forschungsprogramm „Verantwortung in einer konfliktiven Weltgesellschaft“ auf die beiden Forschungsbereiche „Verantwortung im globalen Regieren“ und „Konflikttransformation entlang der Bruchlinien der Weltgesellschaft“.
IRM
Institut für Regional- und Migrationsforschung, Trier
Das Institut für Regional- und Migrationsforschung (IRM) e.V. ist ein unabhängiges sozialwissenschaftliches Forschungsinstitut. Für die Aktivitäten des Institutes bildet die geographische Einheit der Region einen wichtigen Bezugspunkt. Daher soll die Komplexität und die Vielschichtigkeit regionaler Entwicklungsprozesse untersucht werden, von besonderem Interesse sind dabei die Formen und Bedingungen regionaler Mobilität. Neben der Regionalforschung ist die Migrationsforschung der zweite Forschungsschwerpunkt des Institutes. Hier geht es um die Untersuchung der Ursachen, Bedingungen und Folgen von Migrationsprozessen. Beide Bereiche werden letztlich aufeinander bezogen, um die Bedeutung und den Zusammenhang von Migrationsprozessen für regionale Entwicklungen aufzuzeigen und in ihrer Relevanz zu analysieren.
SFVV
Stiftung Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung
Die Bundesstiftung Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung entwickelt in Berlin ein Dokumentationszentrum zum Thema Flucht und Vertreibung weltweit. Dazu zählt die Geschichte von Millionen Deutschen am Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Heimatverlust ist eine universelle Erfahrung, auch heute sind unzählige Menschen davon betroffen. In diesem Kontext bietet die Stiftung künftig mit Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und Recherchemöglichkeiten ein Forum für historisches Lernen.

Sociology of migration, studies of diasporic groups and their transnational activities have received significant scholarly attention in the last twenty years. This area is a fully-fledged field within sociology and our aim is to establish an intellectual home for the study of migration from a sociological perspective.
The Group aims to cover all aspects of migration research, including empirical and theoretical work. It will promote work which not only focuses on recent flows of people across spaces, but also foreground historical perspectives, and issues of identity, culture and the politics of migration. It will cover and contribute to studies of diaspora and transnationalism.
We aim to advance theoretical and methodological work, promote comparative studies, enhance critical, historical and political understandings of migration and diasporas. In so doing, we will provide a UK platform through which scholars can engage in debate and exchange of ideas.
